What a caption looks like when the script is Ge'ez

Burned-in Amharic captions for vertical video, sized for the way Ge'ez actually reads.

caption layout

ሆሄ ለአፍሪካ ቋንቋዎችየድምፅ ኤአይ ይገነባል።

safe area
The band sits inside the margins a vertical feed covers with its own interface, so a caption is never half behind a button.
timing
Caption timing comes from measured Ge'ez reading speed rather than a Latin default, because a Ge'ez character carries more speech than a Latin one.
typeface
Ethiopic faces that actually carry the vowel marks, from the font catalogue, with the line height to clear them.
A layout diagram rather than a screenshot or a frame of video: the caption is the part worth looking at, so it is the only thing in the frame. Transcription for this product runs in the browser and the render runs on our workers.

Built for the people making short vertical video in Amharic, who until now typed captions by hand. Transcription happens in the browser, the caption defaults come from measuring real Ge'ez reading speed rather than from a Latin-text rule of thumb, and the render runs on our workers so a phone does not have to.
